Train fares 2026 – Čierny Hron Forest Railway

Ticket price depends on the number of routes you travel in one day. Each route is a return ride (out and back) on one of the lines (green / blue / red).

• Half-price: Children from 3 to 14.99 years, children younger than 2.99 years not accompanied by a paying adult, students with ISIC, ITIC, disabled people and companions with an identification card
• Seniors: over 62 years 
• Family ticket: two parents with  2, 3 or 4 children over 3 years of age (valid only with a ticket for at least 2 return routes)
• Seniors & Grandchilds: two grandparents with 1, 2 or 3 children over 3 years of age (valid only with a ticket for at least 2 return routes)
• The discounts cannot be combined

Steam train surcharge: €2.00 per person (applies to steam-hauled trains, regardless of age/discount).

Eligibility (2026)

Children under 3 years: free of charge.
Reduced fare:

• children 3–15 years

• students with ISIC up to 26 years

• disabled passengers (ŤZP) and their companion (ŤZP-S) with valid ID

Seniors: pensioners / seniors (with valid ID).

Family discount (10% off)

Family ticket = 10% discount from the standard total price (according to the price list).
Valid when purchasing at least two routes and allows travel for either:

• 2 adults + up to 4 children, or

• 2 seniors + up to 4 children.

(Discounts cannot be combined.)

Journey duration (info for visitors)

• One route takes approx. 45 min by motor train / 50 min by steam train.

• Two routes take approx. 1 h 50 min to 2 h (depending on connections).

• Three routes take approx. 3 h to 5 h (depending on your plan and connections).

Practical information for visitors

• Tickets can be purchased at the station in Čierny Balog (main ticket office by the museum) or directly on the train.

• Payment:

  • at the main ticket office: card and cash

  • on the train: cash only

• Tickets cannot be purchased online.

• We recommend arriving early (especially on weekends and in summer) — train capacity is limited.

• Pre-booked group trips (15+ people) have priority over individual passengers and include a reservation (please arrange in advance).

• We do not offer seat reservations for individual passengers.

• Discounts for children, seniors and groups apply according to the valid price list.

• For historic trains we reserve the right to change the order of cars or cancel a ride in case of technical issues.

• Transport of bicycles, prams and pets is possible free of charge under the carriage conditions.
